ServiceNow Mentorship Bootcamp Recap

We had an incredible event on May 25th in partnership with ServiceNow.

More than 50 women in the San Francisco, San Jose, Los Angeles, and Phoenix areas attended the call. This event was Dress for Success San Francisco and San Jose’s highest-attended virtual event to date!

Moderated by ServiceNow’s Regional Alliance Director, Jennifer Jobin, the session kicked off with three ServiceNow panelists, Eric Schroeder, Alyssa Clark, and Jennifer McNeill, sharing their professional journeys and giving us a sneak peek into their own mentoring relationships. Erin and Jennifer McNeill gave input on when discussing salary during the hiring process is appropriate. Also during the panel session, we heard Jennifer Jobin’s journey and learned it’s ok to step back and take a salary decrease during certain seasons of your life as well as Alyssa’s journey of how she took a complete leap of faith and held her ground when it came to preserving her integrity and personal values.

After, we opened 26 breakout rooms, each filled with its very own ServiceNow volunteer Career Coach, who gave insight on topics such as how to find a mentor in your current workplace, how to negotiate salary, how to advocate for yourself in the workplace, and how to prepare for annual reviews.

Dress for Success San Francisco and San Jose participants who attended and complete the Exit Survey by the due date will receive $25. In addition, all attendees who make an appointment and meet with a Career Coach between May 25th through September 31st will receive an additional $25 making the total event incentive $50.

The event was a success all around! The ServiceNow volunteers shared that it was fulfilling to hear many rich personal stories from participants. Volunteer Maryjo said, “Thank you for giving us the opportunity to connect with others and share our experiences. I enjoyed the morning in a breakout room and having the opportunity to hear about the rich experiences that the group had and where they want to go with their dreams/goals.”

Meanwhile, participants shared:

As a participant, I am glad I made time for this event - I did have a schedule conflict but that is just how it is so I prioritize this because I knew it would be a valuable experience and I did not want to miss it. I work part-time as a tutor and admin support as well as go to school. I’ve been taking classes and getting certified in the tech design space. It is a very competitive space and it’s hard to get my foot in the door. I’m trying and Patty did share some advice on how to do that.” -S.S.

“I feel like I have a better way to talk about gaps in my resume. It’s nice to hear that ServiceNow has a program for early careers for people wanting to go into tech. I learned the power of mentorship. Often times I feel alone and don’t know who to turn to and I think it’s at the point where it’s damaging my career. It’s nice to hear how people are reaching out to help others in their careers. It’s a great idea to connect with people on LinkedIn.” -J.P.

“I am employed full time while attending graduate school full time. I am also making a career pivot to a new field. Mentoring opportunities like this help me to know I'm making the best decisions for my new career.” -C.R.
